Dr Stéphane Rinfret completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Montreal in 1997, and pursued clinical training in interventional cardiology at the Montreal Heart Institute and at the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) in 1998 and 1999. He completed a postgraduate fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, Health Services and Economic Research, in 2001, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Clinical Research Institute (Harvard University). He also obtained a science master (S.M.) degree in clinical epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2001. Dr Rinfret spent the first 7 years of his career at the CHUM and moved in 2008 to the Institut Universitaire de Cardiologie et de Pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ) (Quebec Heart and Lung Institute) where he spent 7 years. He is now appointed as chief of interventional cardiology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and as associate professor of medicine at McGill University since January 2016. He has held several peer-reviewed grants, published over 120 peer-reviewed articles, several abstracts, and has been invited over 200 times to give lectures in the past 6 years. His epidemiological research focuses on health services and outcomes. He is also a high-volume and world-renown coronary operator, performing over 400 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) per year, mostly from the transradial approach and most with complex anatomies, and is responsible of the new MUHC chronic total occlusion (CTO) and Complex Higher-risk but Indicated Procedures (CHIP) program. He is the lead editor of a textbook on CTO PCI published by Springer in 2015. He has performed over 800 CTO PCIs since January 2010, one of the largest volume in the world, including a large number of retrograde procedures, and pursues a very active teaching program of transradial and CTO PCI techniques in Canada and Europe. He is frequently invited to perform live demonstration in large interventional cardiology meetings. He currently serves as a faculty member in many international meetings such as TCT, EuroPCR, AHA, ACC, SCAI and others. He is the co-director of the Multi-Level CTO course, a yearly meeting held in Nice, France. His research plan over the next 5 years is to develop hybrid and innovative surgical and percutaneous revascularisation strategies to improve outcomes of patients with multivessel and complex coronary artery disease.
